Maybe we’re all making artworks while we’re not looking?

What I thought was lockdown ennui turned out to be Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Endometriosis. All in a context of Autism. Frustrated that I wasn’t ‘making loads of stuff’ with ‘all this time’ that was available, I started to be curious about what I did when I thought I wasn’t looking. It turns out photographing my shadow doing things, myself in bed and flora sprouting through the cracks. Together these felt like a mantra for being around that time – something that has continued, in evolved ways.
Maybe we’re all making artworks while we’re not looking? In that place where the school dismisses art as a viable career choice (well, to be fair, it tends not to be that lucrative!), but it’s the making that’s important. Putting things into the world (even if no other soul sees them) is still important.
